Tooth Extractions in Catonsville, MD
When a tooth is too damaged or decayed to save, a simple extraction can relieve pain and protect your oral health. We perform simple extractions at our Catonsville office using local anesthetic.
When an extraction may be needed
- Severe decay or damage that can't be repaired
- Advanced gum disease that has loosened a tooth
- A broken tooth that can't be restored
- To make room before dentures
Simple extractions
We perform simple extractions of teeth that are fully visible, using local anesthetic so you stay comfortable. More complex cases, such as impacted wisdom teeth, may be referred to a trusted oral surgeon.
Aftercare
- Bite gently on gauze to help a clot form
- For the first few days, avoid drinking through straws, smoking, and spitting forcefully, which can disturb the clot
- Eat soft foods and chew on the other side
- Use a cold compress for swelling and take pain relievers as directed
- Call us if bleeding, swelling, or pain gets worse, or if you develop a fever
Replacing the tooth
After the area heals, we can talk about replacing the tooth with a bridge or a partial denture, which helps keep nearby teeth from shifting.
Frequently asked questions
Does a tooth extraction hurt?
The area is numbed, so you should feel pressure but not pain during the procedure. Some soreness afterward is normal.
How long does it take to recover?
Most people feel better within a few days after a simple extraction. Full healing of the area takes longer.
What is dry socket?
Dry socket happens when the blood clot is lost too early, causing pain a few days later. Avoiding straws, smoking, and forceful spitting helps prevent it. Call us if you're concerned.
Do you remove wisdom teeth?
We perform simple extractions of fully visible teeth. Impacted wisdom teeth and other complex cases may be referred to an oral surgeon.
